Being an advocate of powered flight I couldn’t help but treasuring each moment that I have the chance to sit by the window of a plane when I’m on a flight. Gone were the days where I had once been on queue to be next in line to get my hands on a yoke and steer a plane (or was it a dream?).
My flight back to the Philippines to spend my two week holiday came as a necessity when I counted the years to be reminded of my 47th birthday. I graduated from high school 4 days before I will turn 17 so it was a harrowing discovery that 30 years had passed since I left school so inspired and driven about a future ahead of me. Right here now in a place where I unconsciously ‘wanted’ to be at a point in time where my 17 year old self would take as the ‘future’ it may not be as I ‘completely’ anticipated but I’m just fine with it having not taken a time machine to get here to be subjected to the paradox of time traveling.
I’m doing my time traveling ‘manually’ so that I have wrinkles and hair loss to show but I’m still fascinated that I made it at this moment in time to be amused with the evolving technology as with the ever increasing storage space on portable hard drives just at times when the world seemed too crowded virtually losing her own space. Making use of a digital SLR without a film is another marvel that would be out of date years from now but that saved me from spending more in 'covering' for my high school class reunion.
As I am also a proponent of time travel it was a bit of fun that I made it quite easy composing the ‘bylines’ of the reunion’s banner benefiting from the improvements in advertising by making use of a design transferred on tarpaulin utilizing a large format printer. As I have done bits of being sort of a ‘sign painter’ in the old days, that saved me as well from getting my hands ‘sticky’ with latex paint while holding a paint brush.
The class reunion just made my role behind the viewfinder worth the wait after all the years and as the wrinkles on my face and my ‘shiny head’ would be too much as a bouncing point for the camera flash that could over expose the whole scene indoors, it only made sense that I’m the one taking the pictures not allowing myself to be part of it except for a few.
